Passing the Basket Online

Passing the offering basket in church is easy. But is it just as easy folks to give online when listening to your podcasts?

Every ministry is working toward financial freedom. Whether God has put big plans on your heart or you just want to be more generous when the need arises, it’s a great goal. As God is working through your ministry, you get the opportunity to invite your community to give their tithe and offering. Your podcasts are one way to invite your community to give. Are you making the giving process as smooth as possible for them?

If listeners feel prompted to give, you have a limited time for them to actually execute that giving. In church, the basket gets passed or there may be an offering box in the back. Online, if they meet a roadblock such as not accepting ACH or text giving, many people will say they’ll do it later. And then later never comes.

The easiest way to reduce friction is to use an online giving platform, which you may already have. Just put the link to the giving platform in the show notes of every podcast episode. Title it appropriately so people know what they’re clicking on. Some title options include:

  • Support our mission by giving
  • Financially support our mission
  • Give to help us spread God’s word
  • Support our mission
  • Help support the mission
  • Give here!
  • Help us build God’s kingdom
  • Give your tithe here
  • Tithe here

Don’t have an online giving platform? Besides providing smooth giving process for those that can’t pass the basket, online giving platforms can also automate documentation for taxes at the end of the year. Which means more time serving your people. Or making your podcast. Or resting with your family.

Before I list the platforms, know this isn’t an endorsement of any of them. I haven’t set them up, I don’t know what cut they take, I don’t know how secure it is, I don’t the details. You gotta evaluate those yourself for your ministry. With that in mind, here’s a list of ministry-focused giving platforms I’m aware of:

Already have a giving platform you love? I’d love to hear why. Shoot me a message!

I write these education topics for my fortnightly newsletter, podCasting Seeds, and I post them here two weeks after. Want it sooner with podcast recs, industry news, episode ideas AND a private podcast feed? Sign up for the dang thing then!
